How is aloe vera oil made?

The aloe plant prefers to grow in the subtropical zones, where the climate is warm and humid. There are over 300 different species and the "True Aloe" belongs to the grass tree family, which is related to the asparagus species (asparagus or onion). The plant has a short trunk and consists mostly of sword-shaped leaves. The individual aloe leaf has three layers: an inner, clear gel layer made up almost entirely of water, a middle layer of sap, and an outer peel. There are different processing methods, but in general the production of the aloe vera gel begins with the harvesting of the aloe vera leaves. Within 36 hours of harvest, the bark is removed and the gel extracted. The best leaves should be three to four years old to have the full concentration of active ingredients.
